After I qualified from Bristol University in 1985, I worked in mixed practice, treating animals that varied from the size of a mouse to the tallest horse (no spiders though!). In 1993 I took over at Shaw Veterinary Centre to concentrate on caring for companion animals.
I respect the trust that owners give me to do the best for their pets. At Shaw we all work as a team and our aim is to find out what is wrong with your pet and offer the best treatment available. I find this bond is closer in small animal practice, and the satisfaction of helping your pets is greater.
I continue to update my skills by attending Veterinary congresses and education days. Small animal surgery and medicine are fast changing areas and keeping up to date is fun as well as essential.
In 2006 I took over ownership of the practice. We had outgrown our original building and I have been searching for larger premises for a while. Fortunately, when the Estate Agents next door closed down we were able to expand into this building. This extra space is appreciated by all of us.
Outside of work I enjoy live music, photography and I am an avid reader. My family and I have 2 dogs: Maddie a 9 year old black Labrador and Jimmy a 2 year old Border Terrier. We also have Katie, a 12 year old cat, who was originally brought into the practice as a stray. The paintings you see in our waiting room are of Maddie, Jimmy and one of our previous cats called Dill.
